Orchids are not just flowers—they are living art. With their intricate blooms, long-lasting beauty, and diverse species, orchids bring a level of elegance and refinement that few other plants can match. Unlike traditional cut flowers, many orchids can bloom for months and, with proper care, rebloom for years.
The secret to long-lasting blooms is light, hydration, and patience. Orchids thrive in bright, indirect light, need just enough water to keep roots hydrated, and benefit from occasional rest periods between blooms. Each species has unique care needs—explore our orchid care guide for tailored advice.

Established in 2003 with humble beginnings as a kiosk at what was Westfield Mall, Doris Volk worked tirelessly to grow her orchid business and meet client expectations. The early days were marked by long hours, dedication, and a passion for orchids that inspired her to transform a small stall into a thriving enterprise.
As Doris approached retirement, she began to consider the future of her beloved business. It was important to her that The Orchid Lady continue to flourish under new leadership, maintaining the same standards of quality and service that she had established. After careful consideration and with the same meticulous attention to detail that she applied to her orchids, Doris selected Alicia Winegar as the new owner.
Alicia's journey with plants began at an early age, growing up in Upstate South Carolina. Her passion for nurturing and cultivating flora only deepened over time. In 2023, she made a significant move to Sarasota with her family, bringing with her an enduring love for horticulture and a dream to pursue it further.
Alicia's savvy in the field is not merely a product of enthusiasm but also of refined training. Under the expert guidance of Doris, Alicia honed her skills and knowledge of orchids, and on April 1, 2025, Alicia officially acquired The Orchid Lady. This milestone marked the beginning of a new chapter, where Alicia's vision and Doris's legacy would intertwine seamlessly.
Her commitment to excellence is further evidenced by her membership in the American Orchid Society, an organization that promotes the appreciation, cultivation, and conservation of orchids. Alicia's studies, particularly focused on orchids, have equipped her with a profound understanding of these delicate flowers.
Alicia's journey is not one she undertakes alone. With the unwavering support of her husband, Justin, and their two daughters, Adaline and Harper, she is fortified to preserve and enhance the esteemed reputation of The Orchid Lady. Her family stands as her pillars of strength, encouraging her every step of the way.
Together, they are committed to upholding the legacy of The Orchid Lady, ensuring that the business continues to flourish and inspire a new generation of plant enthusiasts. Alicia's story is one of passion, dedication, and family support, a testament to what can be achieved with love and perseverance.
As The Orchid Lady embarks on this new chapter, the community can look forward to continued excellence in orchid care and customer service. Under Alicia's stewardship, the business is poised to grow and thrive, honoring the foundation that Doris built and embracing new opportunities for the future.
